Professor Vasco Guerra awarded the 2016 William Crookes Prize
Professor Vasco Guerra has been awarded the 2016 William Crookes Prize, for his outstanding contribution to the modelling of molecular low-temperature plasmas, such as the self-consistent kinetic modelling of N2, O2, N2-O2, and Ar-O2 plasmas under discharge and post-discharge conditions including the strong coupling between electron and vibrational kinetics, together with chemical and ion kinetics.
Professor Guerra is senior member of the Gas Discharges and Gaseous Electronics group with Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, and Associate Professor of the Physics Department.
The William Crookes Prize is awarded to a mid-career researcher (between 10 and 20 years after PhD) who has been judged to have made major contributions in one or more scientific topics covered by the Europhysics Conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics of Ionized Gases (ESCAMPIG).
