ECLIM 2024

ECLIM 2024 - 37th European Conference on Laser Interaction with Matter

We are pleased to announce the 37th European Conference on Laser Interaction with Matter (ECLIM 2024), to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 16-20, 2024. ECLIM is a biennial conference hosted in Europe representing, since its first edition in 1966, a historic meeting for scientists working on the physics of laser-matter interaction with emphasis on laser fusion, laser-produced plasmas, particle generation and acceleration, laser-driven X-ray and EUV sources. The Conference is aimed to stimulate the development of research in the broad field of laser-matter interactions using high-power lasers, offering the opportunity to present and discuss new results and projects in a rather informal atmosphere.

Seminar: From Huygens to ESTHER

Seminar: From Huygens to ESTHER

Focusing on previous ESA missions and studies, the talk shall illustrate their link with basic research in the field of aerodynamics and plasmas and more specifically of nonequilibrium radiating flows. Huygens mainly, but also IRDT (Inflatable Reentry and Descent Technology Demonstrator), IRENE (Italian Reentry Nacelle Experiment, to test a deployable braking device) and PHOEBUS (a demonstrator for future sample return capsules) shall be presented. The link with the computation of non-equilibrium radiative flows and their validation shall lead to the presentation of selected European facilities that have been involved in the validation of physical-chemical models. The challenges for future development and research shall be outlined. This seminar will be presented by Prof. Lionel Marraffa.

Seminar: State-of-the-Art Mobile Radiation Detection Systems for Different Scenarios

Seminar: State-of-the-Art Mobile Radiation Detection Systems for Different Scenarios

In the last decade, new developments in mobile radiation detection systems brought new improvements and challenges in the detection, quantification, localization and identification of radioactive sources or the mapping of a contaminated areas. For this analysis four scenario types will be considered. Small platforms such as unmanned vehicles, in particular unmanned aerial vehicles, requires higher efficient and energy resolution detectors together with other features such as: compactness, reliability, low-cost, low power consumption and less expensive devices. This seminar will be presented by PhD student Major Luís Marques (CIDIUM/AFA), under the supervision of researchers dr. Alberto Vale (IPFN/IST) and dr. Pedro Vaz (C2TN/IST).
